At Wincham Community Primary School, our intent is to empower children to become healthy, independent, and responsible members of society. We believe that RHE is the "heart" of the curriculum, ensuring that pupils understand how to develop respectful relationships and maintain their own physical and mental wellbeing.
Our curriculum is designed to:
Foster Positive Relationships: Teach children the characteristics of healthy friendships and family relationships, focusing on respect, trust, and kindness.
Cultivate Mental Wellbeing: Give children the language to describe their emotions and the tools to manage their mental health, including knowing when and how to ask for help.
Promote Physical Health: Ensure children understand the importance of sleep, exercise, and a balanced diet, alongside basic first aid and the changing adolescent body.
Empower Personal Safety: Teach children about personal boundaries, the right to privacy, and how to stay safe both offline and in digital spaces.
The Global Connection - How Relationships & Health Education Links To The Global Goals
RHE is the cornerstone of Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing and Goal 5: Gender Equality. It prepares children to be compassionate, self-aware global citizens.
Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing – By teaching children about emotional regulation and physical health, we are contributing to the global target of reducing non-communicable diseases and promoting mental health. We believe that a child who understands their own wellbeing is better equipped to care for the wellbeing of others.
Goal 5: Gender Equality – RHE is where we actively challenge gender stereotypes and promote the message of equal rights. By teaching children about respectful relationships and the importance of consent (in an age-appropriate way), we are building a foundation for a world free from discrimination.
Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities – Our curriculum celebrates diversity in all its forms, including different family structures and identities. By fostering a culture of "inclusion by instinct," we ensure that every child at Wincham feels valued and respected, regardless of their background.
