The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding provided to help us boost the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between the highest and lowest achievers.
Your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium if they:
Are currently eligible for Free School Meals (or have been in the last 6 years).
Have been 'Looked After' (in care) for 6 months or more.
Are children of Service Families.
At Wincham, we decide how this funding is best spent to support our individual pupils. We are held accountable for the impact of this spending, and we publish our strategy annually to remain transparent with our parents and the DfE.
We believe that great teaching is the most effective way to close the attainment gap.
Professional Development: Investing in research-led training (CPD) for our teachers to ensure every lesson is excellent.
Staffing Structure: Maintaining small class sizes or additional teacher support in core subjects like Maths and English.
Mastery Approach: Using proven teaching methods that ensure children fully understand a concept before moving on.
Some children need a little extra help to reach their full potential. This could include:
Small-Group Tuition: Intensive, teacher assistant led sessions for pupils who need to catch up in Reading, Writing, or Maths.
Structured Interventions: Using evidence-based programs (like specific Phonics or numeracy catch-up) tailored to individual needs.
1-to-1 Reading: Dedicated time for children to read with an adult to build fluency, confidence, and a love of books.
Success in school is about more than just academics; it’s about feeling safe, happy, and included.
Wellbeing & Pastoral Care: Access to emotional support and "ELSA" (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) sessions to build resilience.
The Wincham Experience: Subsidising school trips, residential visits, and music lessons so no child misses out on "Cultural Capital."
Attendance & Engagement: Working closely with families to ensure every child is in school, on time, and ready to learn.
