At Wincham Community Primary School, our intent is to provide a high-quality art and design education that engages, inspires, and challenges pupils. We believe that every child is an artist. Our curriculum is designed to equip children with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent, and create their own works of art, craft, and design.
Our curriculum is designed to:
Master Disciplinary Skills: Systematically develop techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art forms (such as textiles and digital media) as children move through the school.
Develop a Critical Eye: Teach children to analyze and evaluate their own work and the work of others, using the language of art, craft, and design.
Learn from the Masters: Introduce children to a diverse range of great artists, architects, and designers from different cultures and historical periods, understanding how they have shaped our history.
Encourage Risk-Taking: Create a safe environment where children feel confident to experiment with new ideas and express their individual identity.
Art is a universal language that transcends borders. It is a vital tool for Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities.
Goal 5: Gender Equality & Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities – Art allows us to explore identity and representation. By studying diverse artists—including those from marginalised backgrounds, different genders, and various ethnicities—our children learn that creativity has no boundaries and that everyone’s story is worth telling.
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – We explore the role of design and architecture in creating functional, beautiful, and sustainable living spaces. Children learn how art can improve our mental wellbeing and the "spirit" of the places we live.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – In our "Eco-Art" projects, we emphasise the use of recycled materials and sustainable resources. We teach children to consider the environmental impact of the materials they use, moving away from "single-use" creativity toward mindful making.
