At Wincham Community Primary School, our intent is to equip children with the computational thinking and digital literacy skills required to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological world. We believe that technology is a powerful tool for creativity, problem-solving, and communication.
Our curriculum is designed to:
Develop Computational Thinkers: Teach children to break down complex problems (decomposition), spot patterns, and design logical algorithms.
Master Digital Creativity: Provide opportunities for children to create high-quality digital content, from coding and animation to data handling and media production.
Prioritize Digital Citizenship: Ensure children are "Safe, Respectful, and Responsible" online, understanding the impact of their digital footprint.
Bridge the Digital Divide: Ensure all children, regardless of their home access, become confident and competent users of technology.
Computing is the engine driving the modern world. It is the primary vehicle for Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities.
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – By teaching our children to code and understand systems, we are preparing them for the "Green Jobs" of the future. Whether designing smart energy grids or medical technology, computing is the key to global innovation.
Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities – Access to technology and the skills to use it is a major factor in global inequality. By providing a high-quality computing education for all, we ensure our pupils have the "digital capital" to compete on a global stage.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – We teach children about the lifecycle of technology and the environmental impact of data storage and hardware disposal. Our curriculum encourages them to think about how technology can be used to monitor and protect our planet's resources.
