At Wincham Community Primary School Northwich, we believe mathematics is a universal language needed to solve the world’s biggest challenges.
How We Link Maths to Global Impact:
Goal 2: Zero Hunger – We use weights and measures to understand food distribution and fair portions.
Goal 7: Affordable & Clean Energy – Pupils use statistics and graphs to analyze energy consumption and the rise of renewables.
Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities – We use percentages and ratios to study fairness in global trade and resource sharing.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption – Children calculate the "hidden math" of recycling, plastic waste, and sustainable shopping.
How We Teach
How We Teach
We follow the White Rose sequence, supported by resources like Maths No Problem and NCETM. We use the CPA Approach:
Concrete: Using physical objects to understand numbers.
Pictorial: Using drawings and diagrams to represent problems.
Abstract: Moving to written calculations once the concept is firm.
No Child Left Behind
We teach as a whole class. If a child finds a concept tricky, we provide quick intervention to keep them on track. For those who grasp ideas rapidly, we provide deep, sophisticated challenges rather than simply moving to harder year-group content.
