No Outsiders
Fostering Future Citizens: The No Outsiders Approach
Discover how Wincham Community Primary School's 'No Outsiders' approach, aligned with our RSE policy, cultivates empathy, respect, and prepares pupils to be positive, inclusive citizens, as recognised by Ofsted.
Creating Exceptional Citizens for Modern Britain
At Wincham Community Primary School, our core belief is that education must extend far beyond academic results. We are deeply committed to nurturing the whole child, ensuring they leave us as compassionate, well-rounded, and positive contributors to society.
This commitment is evidenced in the high praise we received from Ofsted, who noted that our pupils are "exceptionally well prepared to contribute to their community and to wider society." A vital part of this success is our explicit approach to teaching diversity and inclusion through the No Outsiders programme.
What is the No Outsiders Scheme?
The 'No Outsiders' scheme is an integral part of our Personal Development curriculum. It is a proven, proactive approach to preparing our pupils for life in modern Britain by teaching them about diversity in all its forms.
Through a series of age-appropriate picture books and structured lessons, children learn that there are "No Outsiders" at our school or in the wider world. The scheme promotes the essential British Values of Mutual Respect and Tolerance, covering protected characteristics such as:
Different family structures.
Different races and faiths.
Different physical abilities.
Different ages.
By introducing these topics in a safe, familiar, and age-appropriate manner, we cultivate empathy and ensure that our pupils develop a deep-seated respect for everyone, regardless of their background or identity.
No Outsiders and Our Relationships and Health Education (RHE) Policy
The No Outsiders programme seamlessly aligns with our statutory Relationships and Health Education (RHE) Policy. Our RHE curriculum aims to build the fundamental knowledge and character traits necessary for pupils to form healthy, respectful relationships throughout their lives.
How they work together:
Building Empathy: No Outsiders provides the foundational stories and context that allow pupils to see the world from different perspectives, directly feeding into the RHE goal of developing emotional literacy and respect.
Challenging Stereotypes: Both schemes proactively address and challenge prejudice, teaching children to be accepting and inclusive of all people.
Community and Belonging: By teaching that everyone is welcome, No Outsiders reinforces the inclusive, caring ethos central to our RHE provision and to our school community itself.
A Testament to Our Success
The success of our robust personal development curriculum, including the No Outsiders approach, is reflected in the judgement from our recent Ofsted inspection. By teaching our children explicitly about kindness, community, and diversity from their earliest years, we are fulfilling our promise to ensure they become happy, capable, and responsible young people who are ready to embrace the diversity of the world around them.
