Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Wincham School has a purpose built nursery classroom and outdoor play area adjoining the KS1 classrooms. Reception classrooms are situated in the main building.

Children in the foundation stage learn primarily through structured play and concrete experiences. The curriculum is planned to meet the requirements of the Early Learning Goals and to ensure that the children are continually making new discoveries and learning new skills through enjoyable play. We have outdoor play areas for their use and good quality resources to excite and stimulate them. Our experienced teachers know when to begin to introduce more formal work. To assist the teachers of this important foundation stage there are teaching assistants employed and other regular help is frequently available. The children join in certain assemblies and special occasions with the KS1 and KS2 pupils. We find children settle quickly and are happy in school.

Reception
Most children begin school in the September in the reception class. Parents of younger children do have the choice to defer entry to the reception until the following January in the Spring Term if they prefer.

The reception class has its own outdoor play area separate to the main playground.

Nursery
There are morning and afternoon sessions as follows:

Nursery (5 morning sessions)
This accommodates 26 children ages 3 to 4 years.

Caterpillars Pre-School Group (5 afternoon sessions)
This accommodates 26 children from age 2 years and 6 months plus.

A ‘Lunch Time Club’ is  available for children in both Caterpillars and Nursery. This gives the children who stay all day the opportunity for supervised provision whilst they eat their packed lunch and have further activity time.
