Together, we learn, grow and dream

Information & Communication Technology

Information and communication technology (ICT) prepares pupils to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are increasingly transformed by access to varied and developing technology.  Pupils use ICT tools to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information responsibly, creatively and with discrimination.

They learn how to employ ICT to enable rapid access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of people, communities and cultures. Increased capability in the use of ICT promotes initiative and independent learning, with pupils being able to make informed judgements about when and where to use ICT to best effect. Also to consider its implications for home and work both now and in the future.

At Wincham we have a networked computer system which links all classroom and office computers. An ICT suite containing sixteen lap-top computers enables both personalised learning and class teaching of ITC skills. Additional lap tops are also available to supplement class computers. Our ICT system makes excellent use of a comprehensive range of educational software, an ’Espresso’ server and internet access. The system also includes, printers, scanners, microscopes, digital cameras, movie makers and programmable ‘robots’. Pupils use a range of software to find things out, to develop their ideas and to share and exchange information. We have recently introduced the use of Ipads to enhance the range of classroom technology available and a new VLE system has been launched to provide access to quality resources for our children both in school and beyond the school day.

As the pupils progress through the school they develop skills in word processing, data handling and control.  Opportunities to use ICT to support work in other curriculum areas are exploited. All classrooms and the ICT suite  benefit from the installation of Interactive Whiteboard and projector systems which greatly enhance teaching and learning, not just in ICT but across the curriculum.

Comprehensive E-Safety and ICT policies are in place and parents are asked to sign an ‘Internet Use Agreement’ and support its implementation.
