Key Stage 1 classrooms are housed together in the main block between the reception and the nursery. The classrooms link together in a largely open plan manner. The reception class has its own outdoor play area separate to the main playground.
At Wincham school we have a peer support system to ensure that children are supported at playtimes. In KS1 this support is led by the Fun Friends. Early in the Autumn term the Year 2’s apply to be accepted on the training for Fun Friends. The children then attend a number of training sessions, learning how to co-ordinate team games and how to encourage others to get involved with individual or group activities. Once the training is complete the children are presented with certificates in assembly and a special yellow baseball cap which they wear when they are on duty. Each playtime and lunchtime there is a rota and six children will be on duty at any one time.
Our Fun Friends really enjoy their roles and responsibilities and make a positive input to the quality of playtimes and lunchtimes here at Wincham.
